Humpback whales, Megaptera novaeangliae, are part of the Baleen family, Mysticeti, this means they have no teeth but instead have keratin plates that hang from the upper jaw and allow them to filter feed in the colder waters of Antarctica. Unlike toothed whales, such as dolphins and sperm whales, the baleen whales do not echolocate, instead they make vocal calls between each other including the mighty song of the Humpback Whale.
These gentle giants, grace the waters of Vava'u during the winter months of July to October. An amazing opportunity to see the gracefulness and the behaviours as they strive to mate in the calm and sheltered waters of Vava'u.

BOOK NOW FOR 2022 - DON'T MISS OUT !
We encourage you to book early for the 2022 Whale Watch/Swim season. Due to the encounters being dependent on the whales' behaviour, we recommend more than one day on the water. For photographers and videographers we recommend a minimum of 3 days, which is why we offer package rates for multiple trips. Group rates are also available, please email for more details to whalesongtonga@hotmail.com
It's also a good idea to bring your own gear for comfort and fit. We have wetsuits available for use at no charge.
